Water Quality Advisory

The NORTH SHORE WATER UTILITY has issued a Water Quality Advisory.

This is a precautionary water quality advisory due to increased turbidy (cloudiness) as a result of warming temperatures and rapid snow melt.

How is your water treated to protect public health?

Water system operators continually monitor water quality to make sure it is within treatment equipment specifications and meets the Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines (CDWGs).

What is the current issue with the water quality?

Spring runoff (Freshet) has increased the water turbidity. Turbidity is a measurement of how much suspended solids and dissolved solids there are in the water. A NTU (Nepholemetric Turbidity Unit) is the unit of measurement of turbidity.

Currently the treated water turbidity is exceeding the CDWG target of 1 NTU.

Turbidity can reduce the effectiveness of chlorine disinfection. The turbidity should return to normal levels as the current rapid melt phase diminishes.

THIS IS NOT A BOIL WATER ADVISORY. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BOIL YOUR WATER UNLESS YOU HAVE A COMPROMISED IMMUNE SYSTEM.

You will be notified when the treated water quality returns within operating tolerances and this advisory is rescinded.
